N.B.:[/i] This post takes just place prior to & con-current with ¡¥The Ties That Bind¡¦.
¡§Unauthorized Offworld Acitivation!¡¨ : The phrase brought with it a blaring of sirens & a scramble to close the iris - Earth¡¦s defense against unwanted travellers (& possible enemies!) inbound through the Stargate - as General Hank Landry raced down from his office overlooking the control room, having recently been in a briefing with SG-1; Lutentant Colonel Cameron Mitchell hot on his heels. Dr. Daniel Jackson & Dr. Lutentant Colonel Samatha ¡¥Sam¡¦ Carter were quick to follow suit, SG-1 having been just gearing up to embark through the gate themselves on a mission to try & find a way to rid Daniel of the forcefield which continued to bind him & the rogue smuggler Vala Mal Doran together in close proximity to one another - a fact which still irritated Daniel grately.
¡§Any idea whom it might be?¡¨ General Landry asked, ¡§I know SG units 3 & 6 are not scheduled to report in for another 3 hours at least¡¨
¡§Receiving an IDC now, Sir¡¨ The Dialing Computer operator on duty replied, all eyes glued to the screen as the SGC¡¦s computer system analyzed the transmitted code it was receiving with the known codes stored in it¡¦s memory banks; returning it¡¦s answer in a matter of moments.
¡§The code is invalid General, it doesn¡¦t check out¡¨
¡§Why not, Airman?¡¨ General Landry asked, concerned at a potential attempt by hostiles to infiltrate the SGC. It had happened in the past, but just becuase the Goa¡¦uuld where defeated did not mean that the threat that possed had completely vanished from the galaxy. There were plenty of potential enemies out there - like the Aschen - whom still possed a threat to Earth & it¡¦s allies, & the SGC could not afford to be too careful in it¡¦s continued exploration of the galaxy; especially now that the Orii intended to convert the Milkyway Galaxy to their religion (Origin, he believed they called it?), or kill everyone they encountered trying.
¡§It¡¦s an old code Sir, it¡¦s been locked out of the computer for over a year now¡¨ The Airman operating the base dailing computer replied, ¡§Under operational proceedures, I cannot open the gate if the IDC does not check out¡¨
¡§Thankyou Airman, I know the operational proceedures quite well¡¨ General Landry replied, proud of the Airman for doing his job, but not pleased at having been repremanded by a junior officer in front of the SGC¡¦s flagship team.
¡§Here Airman, let me see that. . .¡¨ Colonel Carter lent over the Airman¡¦s shoulder, eager to help with any technical problem she might encounter, always willing to refine & test her scientific prowess wherever possible. What she saw on-screen, however, gave her pause for thought. ¡§Oh my God. . .¡¨
¡§What is it?¡¨ Colonel Mitchell asked, SG-1¡¦s new commander officer cranning his neck over the cluster of people to see what was going on, his curiousity getting the better of him.
¡§Sam?¡¨ Daniel probbed, knowing better than to try & stick his nose into the situation - that had already got him into trouble recently, & had exposed the galaxy to a threat none of them could of possibly foreseen comming - waiting for his long-time friend¡¦s reply.
Backing away from the computer so all could get a clear view, Sam exposed the screen to everyone¡¦s line-of-sight, so they call could see what the commotion was about.
¡§The transmission is Langerian¡¨ Sam replied, pointing out the unique radio wave signals used by that race of Humans, ¡§It¡¦s Jonas¡¨
¡§Jonas?¡¨ Colonel Mitchell asked, ¡§Whom is he again?¡¨
¡§Jonas?¡¨ Daniel asked, raising an eyebrow, ¡§Are you sure?¡¨
¡§His IDC code matches, it¡¦s Jonas alright¡¨ Sam replied.
¡§Else someone got his IDC code?¡¨ Daniel a-joined.
¡§I don¡¦t think anyone from Langeria would want to steal Jonas¡¦ IDC code, let alone know what is?¡¨
¡§But they do know that our Stargate is protected by an impeneratable barrier which would cause them instant death if they tried to step through without inputting the right code first¡¨ Daniel retorted, trying to prove his point.
¡§Why would he contact us now though? I thought the Langerians where dealing with internal affairs at the moment?¡¨
¡§Whom is Jonas?¡¨ Mitchell replied, annoyed at being left out of the conversation, General Landry getting impatiant in the background, wondering what all the commotion was about.
¡§He was a member of SG-1¡¨ Daniel replied, Mitchell¡¦s face dropping like a stone through water; about to say something when an incomming radio transmission cut him off.
¡¥Come in Stargate Command, do you read me?¡¦
Daniel & Sam recognized the voice instantly, Sam getting on the radio & sending a reply back almost immediately.
¡§Jonas, is that you?¡¨ She asked, knowing it was a silly question, but proceedures were in place for a reason & had to be followed.
¡¥Yes, it¡¦s me¡¦ Came the reply; ¡¥I¡¦d like to come to Earth, there is some things we need to discuss; & I¡¦d like to do it in person, if I can?¡¦
Looking at General Landry, Sam & Daniel got a quick quiz on Jonas¡¦ history & his involvement with the SGC, before the all-clear was given to open the iris. When Jonas stepped through, along with a female companion; Sam, Daniel & Mitchell were there to greet him.
¡§Stand down¡¨ General Landry¡¦s order came over the intercom, & then he went to join SG-1 & their new guests.
¡§Sam, Daniel¡¨ Jonas gave them quick nods, hugging Sam & patting Daniel on the shoulder; ¡§You remember Kyanna¡¨
Kyanna gave them a polite smile & look away, the last time they met having been possessed by a Goa¡¦uuld symbiote in the service of Baahl; still not quite comfortable with Jonas¡¦ friends as he was.
¡§Lutentant Colonel Camermon Mitchell¡¨ Mitchell stated, leaning forward & proffering an outstretched hand.
¡§Joans Quinn, nice to meet you¡¨ Joans replied, taking his hand in & shaking it in a strong but firm grip. ¡§Where¡¦s Jack?¡¨
¡§This is General Hank Landry¡¨ Daniel offered, motioning towards the general as he came into the embarkation room.
¡§Jonas Quinn sir, a pleasure to meet you¡¨ Jonas said, reaching to shake his hand.
¡§Nice to meet you son¡¨ General Landry replied, reminding Jonas of General Hammond. ¡§You might want to come to the briefing room after our medicial team has checked you out, I believe we all have a lot to discuss¡¨
¡§It¡¦s OK¡¨ Jonas replied when Mitchell went to show him to the infirmary, ¡§I remember the way¡¨
Sam & Daniel couldn¡¦t help but smile as they all followed Jonas & Kyanna to the infirmary, the three old friends catching up & trading old stories before they all officially met in the briefing room.
¡§So, what did you come here to discuss?¡¨ General Landry asked, as they all sat down around the briefing room table; bringing back many old memories for Joans of his time at the SGC & the missions he had embarked upon during his tenature with SG-1.
¡§Well, as you probably know¡¨ Jonas started, looking specifically at Sam & Daniel, ¡§The last time you heard from us, Langeria was in danger of being blown up from a large deposit of naqadria near our planet¡¦s core¡¨
¡§Yes¡¨ Daniel replied, ¡§Our recent contact with the Joint Ruling Council hasn¡¦t been exactly forthcomming as of late. . .¡¨
¡§Yes, well, we have been going through a bit of a poltical change recently, which kind of brings me to the point of why Kyanna & I are here¡¨ Jonas replied, smiling sheepishly in that wide-eyed, innocent & child-like manner Sam & Daniel remembered so well.
¡§Go on¡¨ General Landry prompted, wanting to here the rest of Jonas¡¦ story.
¡§The recent changes to the Joint Ruling Council & it¡¦s staff has resulted in a more conservative approach to our combined form of government; & as a result, there has been a re-shuffling of the roles & various departments, as the Joint Ruling Council has shifted in it¡¦s thinking. We didn¡¦t want a repeat of the drilling expidition, so it was decided that a fresh new leadership - a revamping if you will - of the Joint Ruling Council was needed, in order to help maintain our way of life so we don¡¦t repeat the mistake the Gould made & wipe ourselves out¡¨
¡§Almost blowing up your entire planet would kind of do that to you I guess. . .¡¨ Daniel mumbled, his words not quite muffled enough for the rest of them, their meaning by no means lost on Jonas.
¡§Anyhow¡¨ Jonas continued, ¡§After the re-shuffle, it was deemed that I was no longer needed as Advisor to the Joint Ruling Council; & I was replaced with someone more incline to fit the new government¡¦s new way of thinking¡¨
¡§So in otherwords, they fired you & now your out of a job?¡¨ Sam asked, slightly incessiant they would treat a world-famous hero responsible for helping save their entire planet from the Goa¡¦uuld - & not just any Goa¡¦uuld either, Anubis was part Ascended before Oma Desala took care of him, & at the time was the dominant power in the galaxy - but she let him continue in spite of her protests or personal reservations.
¡§Pretty much¡¨ Jonas confirmed. ¡§That¡¦s when I started thinking : I miss the old days too much, & as much as Langeria is my home¡¨ He looked at Kyanna & corrected himself, reaching out to touch her hand reassuringly with his,¡§Sorry, our home, it just doesn¡¦t hold the same appeal as travelling through the Stargate does¡¨
¡§I know what you mean!¡¨ Mitchell added in an aside of his own, having been looking forward to leading SG-1 through the Stargate himself ever since the inception of the Stargate Programme.
¡§Basically what I am saying¡¨ Jonas asked, ¡§Is I would like to re-join SG-1 if possible; that we¡¦d like to stay. . .¡¨
At that, everyone around the room was silent; all eyes on Jonas & Kyanna, the silent just getting uncomfortable when Daniel pipped up :
¡§We¡¦d love to have you back!¡¨
¡§I think what Daniel means to say, Jonas, is that there have been some pretty big changes since you¡¦ve been gone¡¨ Sam added, everyone around the table nervous for one reason or another.
¡§Lutentant Colonel Cameron Mitchell now leads SG-1¡¨ General Landry replied, looking Jonas sqaure in the eye, ¡§What makes you think I would want to add a fifth member to the team, or that they would want you back?¡¨
¡§I didn¡¦t mean to cuase any offense, sir. . .¡¨ Jonas started, only to be cut off by Sam & Daniel.
¡§Not that we¡¦d say we don¡¦t want you back but...¡¨ Same said nervously.
¡§An SG team with 5 members?¡¨ Daniel replied, ¡§I don¡¦t think there ever has been one before?¡¨
¡§Look, obviously we all have some thinking to do; & you, Mr. Quinn, have some catching up to do if you are to re-join the team, that¡¦s if you are even approved to re-join the team at all¡¨ General Landry replied in the most military authoritian voice he could muster, given the curcumstances. ¡§And what, pray tell, would Ms. Kyanna do?¡¨
¡§Well, I know Langeria isn¡¦t exactly on par with Earth¡¦s level of technology, but she does have a degree in geology & science, & is one of Langeria¡¦s foremost experts on nadqadria; which would prove useful in helping you guys figure out a way to overcome the instability in the naqadria. Don¡¦t forget also she may still retain valuable knowledge to help aide in the fight against the System Lords¡¨
¡§Jonas, the Goa¡¦uuld have been defeated¡¨ Daniel replied, ¡§They were wiped out by the Replicators before they themselves were destroyed¡¨
¡§What?¡¨ Joans asked, shocked & amazed at this revelation, stunned even. ¡§That¡¦s-That¡¦s good news; I didn¡¦t know the Replicators invaded the Milkyway Galaxy? How were they defeated?¡¨
¡§That¡¦s a long story. . .¡¨ Sam replied, rolling her eyes, memories of her Replicator doppleganger springing to mind.
¡§Anyhow, like I said, I need to put your request to my superiors; & in the meantime, may I suggest you get our guests up to speed on current events people?¡¨ General Landry replied, ¡§Meeting ajourned¡¨
So saying, the group the left the room; only to be back again in a days time, when General Landry had received his reply from Washington, having called General O¡¦Neill & the President before settling at an answer.
¡§Well¡¨ Jonas asked as they sat down, ¡§I read through the mission reports from the time I left to the most recent. It is a shame to hear about Dr. Fraiser dying, she was lovely, I¡¦ll miss her alot¡¨
¡§Yeah, we all do¡¨ Sam replied, Daniel also looking down at the tabletop, unsureo f how to proceed.
¡§So?¡¨ Daniel offered, trying to get over the bad memory & back onto the topic at hand.
¡§After considerabe discussion with my superiors in Washington, & in light of the possible re-establishment of trade negotiations with Langeria, as well as your previous outstanding service record with this facility; we have decided to grant your request, pending final co-operation from the current members of SG-1¡¨ General Landry stated matter-of-factly.
¡§You mean you¡¦ll have us?¡¨ Joans asked incredously, not sure to believe his ears nor dare to hope.
¡§If SG-1 agrees, yes¡¨ General Landry replied, ¡§But only if they all agree¡¨
¡§Well?¡¨ Jonas asked, giving them a big smile; a look of anticaption on his face.
¡§We love to have you back Jonas¡¨ Sam replied, Daniel nodding & adding an enthuastic ¡¥Me too!¡¦, smiles all round.
¡§What about Teal¡¦c?¡¨ Jonas asked, ¡§Where¡¦s he?¡¨
¡§Teal¡¦c is current on Dakarra in a meeting with the High Council of the Free Jaffa Nation¡¨ Sam replied, ¡§We could dial up & ask him? We were waiting on a report from him anyways?¡¨
Looking at General Landry, the team got a nod, & soon, they had established contact with Dekarra, Teal¡¦c¡¦s face filling the MALP telemetry screen.
¡§Greetings! General Landry, Samatha Carter, Daniel Jackson. Greetings to you & your companion Jonas Quinn, it is good to see you again¡¨ Teal¡¦c said by way of greeting.
¡§Nice to see you again too, Teal¡¦c¡¨ Joans nodded, smiling & waving at the Jaffa, several more of his brethen passing by in the background.
¡§How did your meeting with the High Council go?¡¨ Daniel asked.
¡§The meeting went well, we are making progress. It is a slow but necessery process if we are to become strong as a nation & maintain the freedom we have all strought so hard for¡¨ Teal¡¦c replied, ¡§Is there anything you need assistence with in the meantime, General Landry?¡¨
¡§Actually, there is¡¨ General Landry explained the situation with Joans & Kyanna, & after careful considersion, Teal¡¦c replied back with an affirmative answer.
After a few more mintues of general discussion, the connection was terminated, & the Jonas¡¦ attention turned to Mitchell.
¡§So Colonel, what do you say?¡¨
¡§Welcome back to the team!¡¨ Cameron said, shaking Jonas¡¦ hand, the pair smiling at each other as mutual understanding.
A few days later, Jonas & Kyanna looked about their shared room as boxes of their stuff were brought in & placed here & there, having been transported through the Stargate from Langeria.
¡§It will be interesting now that the Joint Ruling Council has decided to resume talks with the people of Earth¡¨ Kyanna said, walking over to stroke a box full of their things. ¡§At least now we can both do what we want, & still have contact with our own planet if needs be. I still find all this quite new though¡¨
¡§Don¡¦t worry¡¨ Jonas replied, going over to hug her & kiss her on the forehead, ¡§It took me some getting used to, too; you¡¦ll do fine¡¨
Loking at Kyanna & then around at all their stuff as the Airmen continued to bring it into their temporary quaters at the SGC, Jonas couldn¡¦t help but smile.
¡§You know, I think we¡¦ll do OK here; what with me being allowed to re-join SG-1 & you helping out the scientist here with the nadaqria project they have going. Langeria will always be home, but there¡¦s nothing like travelling through the gate.¡¨
Looking about, he nodded once more, just to re-affirm to himself that this is what they wante,d what they had chosen. And choose it they had.
¡§Yes¡¨ Jonas said as they cuddled up together, thinking of all the nww &exciting things they would be doing together, all the itneresting places they could go & see; all the new worlds he could visit, the things they would do together. ¡§It¡¦s nice to be back. . .¡¨

¡§It¡¦s nice to be back. . .¡¨
