An RPG - which is an abbreviation of the words role playing game - is kind of like a stage play, or script-writing; in that two or more people gather together in group to 'play out' scenrio's in a fantasy, or make-believe setting, which each person in turn taking on the 'role', or personae of one or more characters exploring that setting. Usually one person is in charge of the action & all the 'nitty-gritty' details which make up the setting (often called the 'Dungeon Master (DM)'[/i], 'Director', 'Game Master (GM)'[/i], etc); with the other participants ( 'Players'[/i]) taking on the role of the characters in the RPG. The person running the campaign ( DM/GM/Director/RPG Sys Op, etc[/i]) also plays the role of other characters which may interact with the other player's characters'; often called non-Player Characters (NPC's)[/i], which may help, harm, or hinder the players' character's as they make their way through the setting (story) the person in charge ( DM/GM, etc]) has laid out for their characters. In many ways, it is like drama, plays, & stage acting; where one person directs & other participate as characters in the story they are all mutually telling as whole - each brings something fun, interesting & unique to the experience; & if done properly & with some forethought, can become a memorable, entertaining & highly enjoyable experience for all in involved (sadly, at times, the reverse is also true. . . ). By far the most popular & well-known example of RPG we can think of is DUNGEONS & DRAGONS (D&D) & it's many associated cast-offs, created by Gary Gayux in the mind-to-late 1980's; which continues to enjoy phenominal success well into the current day. Just as D&D is set in a mideival setting, with a central theme revolving around ancient archtypes - such as Warriors (Fighters), Druids, Magic-users, Theives & the like - with dragons, gold, dungeons & much, much more; so too, does STARGATE : The RPG revolve around a sci-fi setting set in the STARGATE universe. It is very important to remember that, just like D&D; STARGATE SG-1, STARGATE ATLANTIS, STARGATE : The RPG - indeed the entire STARGATE universe - is based purely & solely in fiction & fantasy. Whilst a great undertaking & a fantastic experience it may be, it is not real. Yes, some agencies & factions show on the show exist in real life, or are based on real-life events (such as the U.S. Air Force, the N.I.D., certain theories based in scientific fact which have been extrapolated apon or enhanced to make it fit with the show); but for the most part, STARGATE is a work of fiction, just as RPG's are, in the end, only fun & games. Please remember this when participating in STARGATE : The RPG, or any other RPG; & don't let it - nor anything else on-line - completely take over your life. Remember, we're here to have fun, make new friends & enjoy ourselves as we imagine what it might be like journeying through the STARGATE universe : so jump in & let's get exploring!

STARGATE : The RPG is a role-playing game based upon & centred around the phenominally successful science fiction series known as STARGATE SG-1[/i], it's spin-off series STARGATE Atlantis[/i], STARGATE Universe[/i], & other related indicia from the STARGATE franchise.
It uses the game design, rules & mechanics from the official STARGATE SG-1 Role-Playing Game & the Spycraft (D20 System) Engine & products of our own imaginations as a creative source from which to base the running & continued development of this particular RPG; drawing it's inspiration from many sources - including (but necessarily limted to) the original STARGATE movie, STARGATE SG-1: The Ark of Truth (DVD Movie), STARGATE SG-1: Continuum (DVD Movie), the T.V. series, comics/books/games, fandom, & the internet - to enhance & add to the overall RPG experience found here at STARGATE : The RPG.
We are graciously hosted on Proboards.com webservers, & this message board is laid out for ease of access & written in as plain as English as we can possibly make it, so as to better facilate & anticipate the needs ,wants & requests of our Members, Visitor s & Guests.
This RPG is mainly text-based (meaning that people post stories - called 'IC posts' - on various parts of our webboard, interacting their fictional STARGATE character(s) with others in order to create, enhance & continue on with any given storyline set out here on the board), using words & the occasional image(s) to enhance the telling of a story we wish to convey in our version of the STARGATE universe.
We use the STARGATE movies, the T.V. series & other official errata as the basis of our larger (or overall) storyline, whilst allowing our Members to use their individual characters to 'fill in the gaps' (as it were); allowing them to weave their own character(s) life stories & interactions with the 'bigger picture' that makes up the official storylines & episodes on T.V. & the big screen. It it these smaller stories, these individual 'untold' tales, which we hope will enhance & add to everyone's experience here; enriching everyone's on-line enjoyment & love of STARGTAE through role-playing & creative expression.
