Some forums, most commonly those which are based on a particular world in the STARGATE universe (such as Chulak, New Tollana, etc), have a sticky post at the top of the forum which sits above all other posts in that forum.
These are normally entitled 'A visitor's guide to', followed by the planet name (forum title) on which the board is designed to represent IC. These special posts are designed to give anyone visiting that particular forum an general guide to how the 'world' their character(s) will be visiting looks, feels, & works; basically giving an insight into how the world is to be portrayed IC. Think of it as a traveller's guide (similar to the Lonely Planet travel guides you may find in the travel & other countries section of your local bookstore) to the world your character(s) will be visiting & adventuring on.
These descriptions are usually based on the world as established in the STARGATE universe through the T.V./books/comics series & the STARGATE SG-1 RPG (core) RULEBOOK. Some worlds represented are taken from the various SG SG-1 RPG errata from Alderac Entertainment Group, others (such as Gasmeria, the Gadmeer homeworld) are based partly on what has been observed from the T.V./book/comic series & the products of our own imagining.
All in all, these guides are meant to be fun & insightful tools for you to use IC when your character(s) visits a particular world. Keep in mind, also, that just becuase you know about the given world your character(s) may be visiting; they might not (unless the character(s) in question are well travelled, or have been to the particular planet you are on before).
When visiting these worlds IC, please feel free to read the description of the world as presented in the 'guide to' stickied in the forum & remember to RP your character & their surroundings as accurately as possible. This does not mean you cannot get create with your descriptions of any world your characters may be visiting IC, just that certain worlds (as established in the T.V. series/comics/books) have a certain feel & look to them, & we would like to adhere to that in the RPG as much as possible.
Have fun visiting all the worlds throughout the Stargate network, & don't forget to take log your frequent flyer miles when you get back (j / k ;D)!
