- Items -
1. Grandpa Weir's Watch: Elizabeth's sole personal item which she was allowed to bring to Altantis; her grand-fathers watch hold great sentimental value for Elizabeth.
2. Stylized Leather Uniform: A copy of the leather Atlantis-style uniform Elizbeath wore as leader of the Asuran faction aiming for Ascenion; this is Elizabeth's standard mode of dress.
3. Altantis Diplomatic Unfiorm (standard, Red): The red-&-grey uniform of command once worn by Elizabeth on a regualr basis as leader of the Atlantis Expidition; Elizabeth now wears this uniform when performing her official diplomatic duties on behalf of the Expidition.
4. Athosian Serving Bowl: A gift form Teyla Emagan, this large wooden bowl is made from the pod of a tree native to the planet Athos. Beautifully hand-crafted & etched with Athosian designs, this serving bowl takes pride of place on the shelf in Weir's office, next her photo of her god-son Torran (Teyla & Kanaan's son), & is only ever used on special occassions.
- Background / Character History -
Trained in international relations, Dr. Weir was a career diplomat for the United States, involved in negotiating many sensitive international treaties; Daniel Jackson referenced her work when drafting the treaty between Earth & the Tok'ra. She has two Ph.D.s, speaks five languages, & taught political science at Georgetown University. She was an outspoken anti-military advocate, but rather than being looked upon as a normal activist, she attempted to change things from the inside & entered the realm of government. She became involved in the Stargate program when incoming President Henry Hayes tapped her to lead Stargate Command, replacing Major General George Hammond to put a "civilian" face on the organization. She also appears to have struck up a fast friendship with Daniel Jackson during her time in Stargate Command. Later, she was replaced by Brigadier General Jack O'Neill, whom was in turn replaced by Major General Hank Landry. She had been in a long relationship with Simon before being named Commander of the Atlantis Expedition, leaving her relationship unresolved; it was later terminated.
Elizabeth Weir served as the civilian head of Atlantis & oversaw day to day operation of the city as well as approving missions for Atlantis SG teams & negotiating with other worlds. In her time on Atlantis, she has had many power struggles with the military leaders on the base, including Lt. Col. John Sheppard & Col. Steven Caldwell, commander of the Earth vessel Daedalus.
Her usually strict non-violent attitude has been challenged on many occasions, yet she will still take the actions necessary, as evidenced when she allowed Ronon Dex to "interrogate" a man suspected of planting a bomb (which was actually a piece of code designed to cause an overload that would result in a massive explosion). Her life has been threatened by the Genii twice, once when a strike force invaded Atlantis, & once during the seigeof Altantis when she attempted to trade for one of their experimental atomic weapons.
After taking part in a mission to save Atlantis by stealing a ZPM from the Asurans, Weir was trapped on Asuras. It was revealed by a rogue Asuran impersonating Dr. Keller that Dr. Weir was killed by the Asurans because her human side conflicted with the rest of the Asurans' programming. However, at the conclusion of the Battle of Asuras (which consiquentaly ended in the destruction of the planet & almost all the Asurans) Weir, who had obtained a Replicator body using the FRAN template created by Rodney for use in the Battle of Asuras, attempted to return to Atlantis to produce human bodies for her & a group of others.
While creating human bodies to transfer their consciousness's into, one Replicator broke free from the contained room by shutting the power down. After being disabled, the group decided to leave Atlantis to prevent further threats to them. The Replicators were tricked by Weir into walking through a space Stargate; the freezing cold of space shutting them down & ending the threat to Altantis once & for all.
Following this devleopment, Weir (now in FRAN's Replicator body) was retreived from the cold depths of space, the Altantis Expidition destroying the remaining Replicators', eliminating the last known surviving Asurans & ending the Replicator threat to the Pegasus Galaxy forever. Taken back to Altantis, Weir was revived & allowed to construct a flesh-&-blood body for herself (using DNA from her original body kept on file by Atlantis' medicial staff to clone a new body for her mind to inhabit); downloading her consciousness into her 'new' body, severing the nanite bonds of her old Replicator body & becomming fully Human once again.
Since that time, she has been re-a-climatized to Atlantis & with members of the Expidition, re-adjusting to life as a 'normal', flesh-&-blood Human as she seeks to catch up on missed time; trying to reconcile her past experiences with her hopes for the future.
- Mental Profile -
Dr. Elizabeth Weir is an amazingly strong & remarkably sane woman after all she has been through in the past 5 years on assignment in the Pegasus Galaxy - she has been possessed by an alien consciousness, been infected with Replicator (Asuran) nanites (& later became a Replicator herself), had her consciousness uploaded to sub-space & been downlaoded into a totally different body, before finally resuming her true Human form, to note the more major developments in her life to date - & yet; for all her uncertainity & comming to terms with events of the course of the past 5 years, she has come through relatively unscathed & intact.
Having said this, her time spent as a Replicator & having her consciousness existing in sub-space has fundimentally changed her & her outlook on life, & whilst she is still the same Elizabeth Weir the Expidition has come to know & love, she nonetheless has accquired a hardened, more serious edge; something she puts to use duties & on missions through the Stargate, whilst learning to re-adjust & temper this new-found 'toughness' with the diplomatic & natural leadership skills she is famous for.
Re-adjusting & re-settling back in with the Atlantis Expidition after her ordeal with the Asuran Replicators has been a sublte, yet profound, adjustment; & is something she has had to come into gradually. Catching up on events & the current goings-on on the Expidition since her time with the Asurans has also been an overwhelming task; one which she has thrown herself into vigorlessly, finding the experience physcially & mentally exhausting at times, but every carthetic.
Having been releaved of command & now finding Richard Woolesy in charge of the Expidition, she has nonetheless thrown herself back into diplomatic duties for the Expidition, & has been consulting with Dr. Rodney McKay on the state of the Replicators & her time spent in sub-space as a disembodied consciousness, considered something of an 'expert' on the Replicators, given her former experience as one of them in the past.
She still has great affection for, & affinity with, Team Sheppard, in particular, the Athosian Teyla Emgan - a friendship she has since re-kindled - whilst they, Elziabeth, & the rest of the Expidition, all try to deal with her bizzare home-comming.
Elizabeth feels a special connection & affinity with Carson Beckett - the fact that they are both technically 'clones' of the original Dr. Weir & Dr. Beckett has alot to do with it - & the pair understand each other more greatly than other base personell; having bonded & become even closer becuase of their similar shared experiences.
All in all, Elizabeth is glad to finally be home, & has returned a somewhat wiser, changed woman. Whether her experiuences have helped or hindered her, & what her future holds; remains, however, to be seen, & only time will tell what the future holds in store for this proud, unique & somewhat troubled individual. . .
