The Gateroom: The gate room (also called the Embarkation Room) contains both a Pegasus Galaxy gate & a Milkyway Galaxy stargate, faciliating travel between the two galaxies by means of a macro designed to dial each gate in the chain between galaxies & pass it on to the next until it reaches it's desired destination. The emrbarkation area is large enough to accomidate several SG teams at once, & has enough space to facilitate the enrty & landing of a Puddle Jumper if required. The gate room is heavily gaurded around the clock by armed personell & can be locked down in the event of an emergency.
Control Interface Room (C.I.R.) : A securely sealed room located just off the Gate Room itself, this serves as the command centre for the entire station. With a view of the gateroom through bullet-proof trinnium-enhanced glass, as well as monitored survallience of the entire station; the Control Interface Room also acts as a bridge of sorts, co-ordinating battle commands & defense of the station itself, as well as access to the Stargates & the base dialing computer. Sub-space & radio communications, as well satellite telematry, can also be monitored from this room. Reenforced blast doors can be lowered down to seal the command centre off from the rest of the station, preventing access to unauthorise personel in the event of an incursion.
Mess Hall: The mess hall is where the staff come to socialise, as well as eat. Station personel have their meals rostered in rotating shifts, with a permnanent staff of cooks, chefs & cleaners on hand to meet the base's culinary needs. In spite of the somewhat limited (& some would say tasteless) menu, all staff & visitors are requested to inform mess hall staff of any allergies prior to consumption. Occasional delicacies from Earth (such as beef jerky, hot dogs & pizza) or from Atlantis' trading partners in the Pegasus galaxy shake up an otherwise bland & unexciting menu. Social clubs, such as bridge club & the station chess club, often meet here off duty (when time permits) & provide a relaxing environment in which to socialise outside the routine of of normal base operations.
Briefing Room:[/u] A volumous room filled with a large table for meetings, as well as addition facilities for presentations (such as projectors, display units, & a white board); the briefing room is used as both an informal meeting area for dignitries from both galaxies, as well as a conference room for the briefing & debriefing of SGC personel for projects & missions on & off base.
Personel Qauters: Located at various points around the station, crew qaurters are spartan & cloistered to maximise the limited space aboard the station. It is not uncommon for SGC personell to share qaurters two at a time - bunk beds being the preferred method of personel lodgement - with guests, senior staff & VIP's given a bit more leg room in light of their status with Atlantis & the SGC. In spite of this, crew space is limited, & personal items are often restricted to one or two momentos (such as a photograph of one's partner & the like) per person. Toilets & washroom facilities & changerooms are located at end of the hall of each section, with men & women using seperate facilities located at opposite ends of the hall. All liquid waste is recycled & processed for use elsewhere in the station, providing for maximum efficency in base operations & minimising waste.
Medical Facilities: Medical facilities are available on base for the treatment of injuries, personell assessment before travel to & from Midway, & other alments; & includes a modest medicial ward, operating theatre & containment area for the treatment of potentially infectous patients. Doctors & medical personell famailar with species & diseases from both galaxies are station here in the event of treatment or the outbreak of disease.
Science labs: The Midway space station's science labs are located in their own module in a seperate section of the base. It is here that experiments & research projects considered too dangerous to conduct in either the Milkyway or the Pegasus galaxy are conducted under the watchful eye of the Midway Head of Science Division. One-way Tok'Ra forcefields prevent entry into restricted lab areas where the more dangerous or risky experiments take place, with general access allowed to lower-risk areas with security detail & a science staff escourt. Tamer experiments - such as the hybridisation & cross-breeding of plants from the Pegasus & Milkyway Galaxies - are also conducted here, & are often paraded in front of visiting dignatries to convince them of the viability of the stations science budget W(which is approved by the I.O.A.). The science labs are self-contained & can be sealed off from the rest of the base in the event of an emergency. In extreme circumstances, the science module can be detached from the station as a self-contained unit, & comes with it's own self-destruct sequence to detonate the science labs in the event of any experiments getting out of control.
Security Facilities & Gaurds Room: Midway is equiped with it's own security facilities & gaurd barracks, including an armory stock with rifles, hand guns, Goa'uuld zat'nik'a'tel's & Wraith stunners, as well as grenades & heavy weapons ordiance in the event of full-scale incursion. Additional weapons lockers are scattered around the station, hidden in strategically located locations.
Other Features:Gate Shield-Irisis'- Since the Wraith incursion of Midway & sucessful inflitration of the SGC, additional enhancements have been added to the Midway Space Station after it's re-construction. Perhaps one of the most crucial of thse has been the installation of a shield-iris in both Stargate's in the station's gateroom. A combination of energy shields & irisis' protects both gates from unauthorised entry into the station.
When an incomming wormhole is activated on the Pegasus gate, an energy shield of Tok'Ra design is activated, preventing matter from passing through the event horizon of the Pegasus gate, much the same as Earth's iris or Atlantis' gate shield. When the approperiate GDO code is received, the energy shield is lowered, allowing for access to the station. An iris made of a trinimum/titanium has also been installed in the Mikyway gate, allowing for the closing of a phsyical iris (much in the same manner as the iris on Earth's Stargate) in the event acces to Earth needs to be restricted. A similar process with a different GDO code than that of the Pegasus gate is required to unseal the iris to gain access to & from Earth.
In the event of total power failure (such as an attack on the station itself), both iris' on both Stargate's are designed to automaticaly enguage, preventing access to, or from, the station, & by extension; Atlantis, or Earth itself. Decactivation of either the gate shield(s) or the iris/iris' is via an authorised access code (entered into the station's Dialing Computer) & palm print scanner, & is heavily restricted. Indepedant naqaduh generators provide power to the Pegasus Gate energy shield & the Milkyway Gate iris, as well as the Dialing Computer, ensuring the base is protected from attack via Stargate in the event of power failure elsewhere within the station.
Ring Room & Platform - Midway is equiped with a Goa'uuld ring platform disigned for the easy transport of goods & personell to & from visiting
Daedalus-class ships. For security reasons, the room containing the transport platform is located in another part of the station away from the Control Interface Room, the stargates & personell qaurters. A pair of armed gaurds are stationed either side of the enterance to the ring room to prevent unauthorised access to, exit from, or entry into the base via the ring platform.
Defensive Weapons Platform - Weapons batteries consisting of high powered rail guns & missle launchers capable of launching Mark VI naqaudah-ehanced warheads are placed strategically around the station for the purposes of defense. Two (2) Goa'uuld energy cannons specifically adapted to meet the station's needs & retrofitted to rotating mobile turrents round out the stations defenses, providing maximum defensive capability in the event of attack.
Station Shielding - Created using knowledge from the Asgard Core & utilising current asgard shielding technology already aboard Earth's
Daedalus-class vessels, Midway is protected by four (4) Asgard shield emitters. Each emitter provides overlapping protection for the space station, ensuring the occupants are well protected against the haazards of the void, in addition to the possibility of direct attack by enemy vessels; such as Wraith Hive Ships.
Emergency Self-Destruction - Used as a last resort, the emergency self destruct is enagaged when all other security measures have failed & the risk of attack on Earth is immenant. Upon entering an authorised security code by two senior space station staff (such as the Base Commander & Head of Security, for example) & the scanning of their hand prints, as well as voice-recognition software, the base will set to automatically self-destruct in 5 standard Earth minutes by rigging the naquadah generators powering the space station to overload; destroying the station & anyone unfortunate enough to be on it at the time. The resulting explosion is powerful enough to take any fighter in range & is enough to destroy - if not damage - any larger vessels which may happen to be close by at the time of detonation.
