A powerful vampiric species that drains the life-froce of other sentient species, the Wraith are the scourge of the Pegasus Galaxy; having defeated the Ancients during the First Great Seige of Atlantis & threatening to overrun the Pegasus Galaxy & beyond with their unyielding & ever-burning hunger.
With technology to rival that of the Ancients & a massive army of untold millions - possibly trillions - of Wraith scattered all across the Pegasus Galaxy; the Wraith pose a very real threat to the Atlantis Expidition, Earth, & it's allies - not to mention the billions of sentient beings inhabiting the countless worlds of the Milkyway Galaxy - & with the recent revelation that their is not enough 'food' to sustain every single Wraith in the Pegasus Galaxy - leading to a civil war amongst the various Hives & factions within the Wraith collective - as well as various devleopments with the Asurans & the tainting of their already limited food supply; their desire to find new rich feeding grounds has taken on an ever greater urgency amongst the leadership caste of the Wraith.
With the Atlantis Expidition encountering several enemies - some new, some old - in the Pegasus Galaxy, more Wraith awakening all the time & various other concerns - not to mention the fact that Earth & her allies are hard-pressed to offer substainual aide to Atlantis, given the various intregues in the Milkyway & beyound - their continuing search for Z.P.M.'s (or alternative power sources) has taken on a new urgency.
All in all, the Wraith are as much of an engima as they are a threat; & if there is one that is certain, it is the fact that the Wraith will one day come, in overwhelming force, for the Atlantis Expidition - & the rest of the Milkyway, Ida & Alterran Galaxies - once they have ravaged the Pegasus Galaxy until they can ravage it no more; & when that day comes, it will be a very dark day for Earth & her allies indeed. . . .
